Federal Level: Senator Harry Reid's office floated a bill in early Dec 2010 that would regulate online poker in the US. That bill was intended to pass in the lame-duck session; those efforts failed. New Federal legislation is expected in Spring 2011.
Regardless, many believe that the sketch the bill offered of regulated online poker in the US will be the new frame for the debate over the issue

New Jersey: New Jersey is advancing legislation that would regulate intrastate online poker. The legislation is expected to pass into law early in 2011 and would allow players residing in New Jersey to compete against other players in NJ; licenses to operate would come from the State regulatory board. Gov Christie vetoed this legislation on 3/3/11.

California: California has a number of bills in play that would regulate intrastate online poker. This state should be of particular interest to poker players as it is one of the few that could reasonably support an intrastate online poker room in terms of player liquidity. With the increasing budget issues facing CA and the press of Federal legislation or legislation from a competing state, many analysts expect CA to move on the bill as early as 1st quarter 2011

Florida: Florida Rep. Joseph Abruzzo introduced a bill in December 2010 that would regulate intrastate online poker in the state of Florida. Some early points of note: 18 would be minimum age, and players would only have to be in the state of Florida (not actual residents) to play.
